Wildlife Walks and Nature Experiences in Devon
A Wildlife Adventure
on Your Doorstep

Imagine stepping out of your holiday cottage and wandering down to your very own little wildlife haven.
At the bottom of Compton Pool’s 14-acre estate lies Willow Carr, a peaceful two-acre wetland meadow with three fishing lakes, winding paths and an abundance of wildlife.
Take a leisurely stroll beside the water, listen to the birdsong and keep an eye out for our resident kingfishers. We’ve been fortunate enough to watch these colourful little birds raising their young, and catching a glimpse of one darting across the lake is always a special moment.
Herons regularly visit the lakes, and you might even spot a deer among the trees. With over 40 bird species recorded here, every walk offers the chance to discover something different.
There’s no timetable or organised activity to follow. Just fresh Devon air, beautiful surroundings and the freedom to explore at your own pace.

Little Moments in Nature

Sometimes the most memorable holiday moments are the simplest.
A flash of electric blue as a kingfisher skims across the water. A heron standing perfectly still beside the lake. Dragonflies dancing above the reeds on a warm summer afternoon.
For children, Willow Carr can feel like a little adventure. There’s always something new to look for, from butterflies among the wildflowers to frogs and other creatures living around the water’s edge.
Bring your camera, enjoy a gentle family stroll or simply find a quiet spot to sit and take in the surroundings.
And that’s part of the beauty of staying at Compton Pool. One moment you can be enjoying the swimming pool or tennis court, and the next you’re surrounded by birdsong in your own peaceful corner of South Devon.
