Green Tourism

We are proud to be one of the most environmentally responsible tourist destinations in the UK.

Since we refurbished all the cottages and facilities in 2005/6 we have ensured all our development has made Compton Pool Farm is as green as can be.

In 2013 we commissioned our Bio Mass boiler, which reduced our carbon emissions from around 80 tonnes a year to just 2. This major investment means that all hot water and heating for the site is produced from a super-efficient boiler that burns locally sourced timber. This allowed the removal of 14 polluting Propane boilers.

At the same time, we installed a 10KW solar panel system on the swimming pool roof and wood store roof which now generates around 8000kw hours of electricity on the site, about 15% of our total consumption.

These two initiatives combined mean that we are a virtually carbon-neutral business.

We are also proud to be associated with Devon Contract Waste (Zero to Landfill) whose very name confirms that through one of Europe’s most innovative recycling centres in Exeter, all our waste is recycled and nothing goes to landfill. The process makes it very easy for our guests to engage with this recycling as waste management in each of the cottages is extremely straight-forward.

We supply only environmentally responsible cleaning and consumables for our guests, mostly Ecover with no phosphates present.

Our gardening team manage the 14 acre grounds sympathetically, with great care being exercised to ensure we preserve the natural wildlife habitat.
